Much of their time is spent near-surface waters in the epipelagic zone (where there is enough sunlight for photosynthesis) and the mesopelagic zone (where light still penetrates but is insufficient for photosynthesis). Albacore are pelagic and prefer the open ocean – rarely coming close to shore. Smaller subpopulations may occur in the North Atlantic and Mediterranean and some intermingling may occur between different populations in the South Atlantic and the Indian Ocean. There are six managed populations of albacore tuna: North and South Pacific Ocean, North and South Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, and the Mediterranean Sea. They are preyed upon by larger species of sharks, billfish, and tuna.Īlbacore tuna are found in the warm, temperate waters of the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans. Albacore reach maturity between five to six years old at which time they can then successfully reproduce. They can reach up to four feet (1.2 meters) long and weigh up to 80 pounds. To combat these high mortality rates albacore experience rapid growth rates when they are younger, but then grow at a slower rate as they age and mature. Eggs, larvae, and juveniles experience a high mortality rate. Eggs are fertilized externally, develop rapidly, and hatch with 24 to 48 hours after fertilization. Compared to other tuna they do not mix with other species as much and do not associate with floating objects.įemales are broadcast spawners and can produce between 800,000 and 2.6 million eggs every time they spawn – with mature females spawning multiple times throughout the year. Similarly sized albacore form large schools that can be up to 19 miles wide. Given their body’s high-energy demands it is believed that they may consume up to 25 percent of their body weight every day. They are thought to be sight feeders using their eyes to identify and prey on schooling sardines, anchovies, and cephalopods – with the latter accounting for the majority of their diet. They are opportunistic hunters and are believed to primarily hunt during the day at the ocean surface to depths of 1640 feet (500 meters). Additionally, albacore tuna have higher blood pressures and volume than most other fish, and have hemoglobin concentrations similar to those found in humans – all of which increases the oxygen-absorption process.Īs top predators in their ecosystem, albacore tuna play a significant role in the food chain. As such, they are constantly swimming with their mouths open to force oxygen-rich water over their gills. Albacore lack a swim bladder and have lost many of the structures found in other fish needed to pump water over their gills in order to obtain oxygen. In order to maintain a high internal body temperature, albacore have fast metabolic rates that demand a large supply of oxygen and food. Regulating body temperature also allows the tuna to inhabit a wide range of temperatures in the water column as well as geographically. This allows the tuna to regulate their body temperature to higher levels than the surrounding water and increases muscle efficiency helping the tuna to reach and maintain high speeds that can exceed 50 miles per hour. Like other tunas, albacore possess a highly evolved circulatory system with countercurrent exchangers that prevent heat loss through musculature activity. Their skin is smooth and is a dark metallic blue on their backs to a silvery light coloration on their bellies. Albacore tuna’s pectoral fins extend over half the length of their bodies. They have streamlined fins with a dark front dorsal fin and a pale yellow rear dorsal fin. It does not store any personal data.Albacore tuna are built for speed – having a thick, short, torpedo-shaped body with a slender tail. ![]() ![]() The cookie is set by the GDPR Cookie Consent plugin and is used to store whether or not user has consented to the use of cookies. We’d like to see a little more life and variety in the commentary doled out by Jon Sciambi and Chris Singleton, and something along the lines of NBA 2K's narrative-driven MyPlayer when it comes to the lacklustre Road to the Show mode. It's also beginning to feel as though MLB The Show, as good as it can look and sound in places, is due a bit of an overhaul. That’s not to say getting involved with either of these is a total let-down - they’re still perfectly fine - they just feel a little flat and uninvolved in terms of presentation and there are few reasons to stick with them compared to Diamond Dynasty and the new Storylines offering. Both its Franchise and Road to the Show modes do little to make themselves stand out over previous entries, continuing to take a firm back seat to the centrepiece Diamond Dynasty. Let's start with where this one is most lacking, and MLB The Show 23 once again fails to address a few issues that have been fairly long-standing with the game at this point. ![]() But, when all’s said and done MLB The Show 23 still manages to serve up a decent overall package. I've been tuning specifically F150's for the last 6-7 years, and tune the fastest 11-19 truck in the world, and lots of other very fast trucks. You can go to a stiffer set of springs, up to about 95 psi, but be prepared to work on the VCT phasers control logic to accurately control the cams with the added seat pressure. Even earlier if you don't time the exhaust valve closing point properly. The stock valve springs only have a bout 55 psi of seat pressure, and the exhaust valves will float on as little as 10 psi of backpressure. Without that, you'll never get it to run right, and you'll destroy the transmission quickly.Ī single turbo is not a great idea either, unless you are running a kit that has VERY minimal backpressure. You need a good handle on how the HDFX system works, and how to calibrate the system to produce an accurate torque model. Even then you'd want to start with something a lot simpler, like a S197 Mustang with a 6R80 transmission. If you are REALLY comfortable working on LT4 engines with automatic transmissions, and understand how the GM torque logic works, you MIGHT have a solid base to start messing with Ford's control logic. Try to force it, and get it wrong, and you'll make a pile of parts out of the fancy $7k transmission. Get it wrong, and if you're lucky it won't drive well enough to get out of it's on way and torque limiters will prevent you from doing any real damage. All of which can be pulled form at any given time, depending on cam positions and torque requests. Plus 28 torque tables, 28 inverse torque tables, and 28 ignition timing tables. They are speed density only, and there are 28 separate VE tables that will all need to be tuned. It would be hard not to consider a Surface if you're in the market now. Nothing all that spectacular for work related tasks. Admittedly they were super cool at first but at this point everyone pretty much just takes notes, does a little bit of email and plays on the web with them. We were planning on buying 10-12 at work but MS kept pushing out the date of the release for the first "real" one, so we eventually gave up and got iPad's. It was the one that wasn't an x86/圆4 based processor so it could only run programs specifically compiled for it, which very much limited it's usefulness. I actually had the very first one as a tester at work. I've been eyeing the new Surface's lately. someone like him wouldn't have gave a damn if it was cheaper if it made the product lower quality. It's hard for a company that big to walk the line between saving money and "cheapening" things up too much. I haven't really had any problems with any of my Apple stuff, it wouldn't surprise me if quality hasn't gone down some since Steve died though. In digital communications, the equalizer's purpose is to reduce intersymbol interference to allow recovery of the transmit symbols. Picturephone circuits also had equalizers. Modern digital telephone systems have less trouble in the voice frequency range as only the local line to the subscriber now remains in analog format, but DSL circuits operating in the MHz range on those same wires may suffer severe attenuation distortion, which is dealt with by automatic equalization or by abandoning the worst frequencies. Without it dispersion causes the loss of integrity of the original wave-shape and is seen as smearing of what were originally sharp edges in the picture. The second issue is that phase equalization is essential for an analog television signal. To keep this manageable, television equalizer sections were often combined into a single network using ladder topology to form a Cauer equalizer. ![]() A television equalizer consequently typically requires more filter sections than an audio equalizer. The first of these is that the television signal is a wide bandwidth covering many more octaves than an audio signal. Equalization was also applied to correct the response of the transducers, for example, a particular microphone might be more sensitive to low frequency sounds than to high frequency sounds, so an equalizer would be used to increase the volume of the higher frequencies ( boost), and reduce the volume of the low frequency sounds ( cut).Ī similar approach to audio was taken with television landlines with two important additional complications. It is necessary to remove or cancel any loading coils in the line before equalization can be successful. This was particularly useful for broadcasters who needed "music" quality, not "telephone" quality on landlines carrying program material. These kinds of equalizers can also be used to produce a circuit with a wider bandwidth than the standard telephone band of 300 Hz to 3.4 kHz. Equalizing filters must cancel out any group delay and phase delay between different frequency components.Īnalog telecommunications Audio lines Įarly telephone systems used equalization to correct for the reduced level of high frequencies in long cables, typically using Zobel networks. ![]() In this application the actual waveform of the transmitted signal must be preserved, not just its frequency content. Telephones, DSL lines and television cables use equalizers to prepare data signals for transmission.Įqualizers are critical to the successful operation of electronic systems such as analog broadcast television. ![]() When a channel has been equalized the frequency domain attributes of the signal at the input are faithfully reproduced at the output. Equalizers are used to render the frequency response-for instance of a telephone line- flat from end-to-end.
